Man About Town: Reliable me – A trusted newsman

As reported in my esteemed column last month, Mario Montiel opened his new Edward Jones office in Silverton. Of course, life moves pretty fast and Mario got an unexpected opportunity to take over an established office in Keizer, an offer he couldn’t refuse. Soooo, welcome Brynie Robinson (you might remember his dad, Robbie, former SHS football coach) back to Silverton to fill Mario’s shoes.

The Man About Town: Those are some ugly…

Yes, we have finally reached the dog days of summer and speaking of dogs, pack your pooch to Silver Gardens Care Home on July 16 and check out its first dog show. Call Dodie Brockamp at 503-873-5362 for information. Your pooch will enjoy a chance to show you off around town.

Man About Town: Late again – Hey, can I borrow a Prius from the motor pool?

Well, it looks like the fine folks at ‘ol Toy-yoter sure are taking their lumps. Being a car guy, I just don’t get it… they say Prius owners may experience “unintended acceleration”…what does a Prius have, like 6 horsepower? With that kind of earthshaking power any acceleration might certainly be “unexpected” but hardly cause for alarm. Besides, it’s not like the brakes don’t work……

The Man About Town: Is that guy dancing or are his pants on fire? …

So, I takes a few days off and go with the mini Man-ette for our annual father – daughter camping trip to Central Orygone. When we were checking in, the camp host remarked they too were from Silverton (The Man was sportin’ my spiffy Seven Brides Brewing T-shirt). So there we were, miles away, standing out in the woods with Ken and Elaine Ellis talking about how great Silverton is. I guess it just goes to show my mom (The Mom?) was right: “You can travel east, travel west, but after all, home’s best.”

The Man About Town: Covering it all – Bull riders, birthdays, B&Bs and big bucks

By Jim Kinghorn Silverton historian and long-time resident Jeff Brekas was back in town last week during the freak thunderstorms. Apparently Jeff was having an electrifying conversation when a nearby lightning strike sent a jolt through the phone strong enough to knock him to the floor. The Man was surprised to hear such a thing could happen, but I bet […]
