The Man About Town: Do you feel that breeze?

By Jim Kinghorn

Local agents Rosie (The Realtor) Wilgus and Terry (The Terminator?) Williams will star in an upcoming edition of HGTV’s,  My First Place.  The show follows first-time homebuyers through the process of buying a home of their own and also includes footage of their wedding at The Oregon Garden. Watch for it to air in September.

Oregon Garden gal, April Purdy and her husband, Michael, recently welcomed their new little sprout, Zachary Michael into the world. Just don’t ask if he is growing like a weed……

Under the heading of “How cool is that?,” 2006 Silverton H.S., recent Macalester College grad and former Our Town writer Matt Day has had articles published in none other than The Wall Street Journal. Young Mr. Day landed an internship at the renowned paper and is livin’ large in the big city. So come on, all together now, say it with me, “How cool is that?!?”

Ever notice that you hear the best quotes from people after they are dead? “You can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.” – John Wooden

Marta Stovin’s American Academy of Performing Arts is now offering weekly Zumba dance fitness classes at their Main Street location. The Man took a dance class one time and the next day, it felt like I may have strained my zumba.

At the recent retirement roast of out -going school superintendent Craig Roessler, a bombshell was dropped about a possible love child from Craig’s past. The Man has obtained photos that I can neither confirm or deny the accuracy of, but I am sure you will agree there is a striking resemblance. Who’s your daddy?!?

Ben Rash and Brian Gengler are opening The Bierhaus on Main Street in Mount Angel. The two local lads will feature a (you guessed it) German sports bar motif, German food and a variety of German libations. ‘Ya sensing a trend here, Sgt. Schultz? The Man sez you could call it a Wunder – bar…..

Don’t miss the poster unveiling party for the Silverton Fine Arts Festival, June 18 at the former Café Trio at 405 N Water St. This year’s featured artist is Lee Christiansen. Your $10 admission gets you wine, hors d’oeuvres, live music and all the talent you can soak in.Lee Christiansen

The Man has had the pleasure lately to be in need for a medical “tune up“ or two. The thing I don’t understand is that when you are at your most vulnerable, at the mercy of the doctors and nurses, they make you undress behind a thin curtain with a big gap in it and have you put on a “gown” that was obviously designed for the amusement of the nursing staff. How are these things even supposed to work? I figure that I have been wearing clothes all of my life (except that period back in the ’70s we don’t talk about) and If you give me clothing that I can’t readily figure out how to wear, that’s a bad design.  I mean really, do we have to wear a garment that lets our least attractive parts show through the back? Come on people, we put a man on the moon, we even developed the technology to shoot golf balls at an oil leak (and expected it to work), surely we can come up with something a little more dignified. And don’t think I can’t hear that snickering from the other side of the curtain…

See you on the street…

Something for the Soul: The unpredictability of life – Gratitude

By Winnie Bolton I write about gratitude often but it is never enough. Not wanting to sound boring, I try not to dwell on it but my heart continuously overflows with thankfulness. Distinguished Service: Kathy Wall, Randy Wavra honored
