It’s an annual rite of spring. They start out small, growing larger as the temperature starts to rise, often in the same locations as last year… no, The Man is not talking about daffodils, it’s the potholes that pop up in the streets around town.

Starting out in a shop on North First Street, then on Main Street, off South Water Street and now on Sooouth Water, next to Water Mountains Restaurant. If this trend continues you’re eventually gonna need a state park pass to get a haircut…

Despite the recent talk of bankers as greedy so and sos, Citizens Bank is encouraging its tellers to knit on the job. Whenever they are not with a customer, you can find them knitting hats and scarves to be donated to Silverton Area Community Aid.

If you haven’t been following the progress of the new community hall in Mount Angel, you are in for a pleasant surprise.

You have all heard the phrase, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” – a group of local merchants have decided that “Money spent in Silverton, should stay in Silverton” and recently launched a new campaign called “Choose Silverton”.

Hey kids, you can help The Oregon Garden get a $10,000 grant from the folks at Rainbird Irrigation. Just go www.iuowawards.com, click on the “find and vote” button and enter Silverton into the search box. You will then be prompted to vote for the Wetlands Treated Waste Water project. It’s as simple as that and you can vote every day until March 22.

Local photographer and art maven Barry Shapiro is working on a program to beautify downtown Silverton. The June Drake Photography Center will be a mobile gallery that will take up residence in one of the empty storefronts with the theory that occupied buildings look more vibrant, are easier to rent and can provide exhibit space for local artists.
