By Jim Kinghorn Those nuts in Mount Angel are holding their Hazelnut Fest Kriskindle Markt (apparently they forgot to buy a vowel) on Dec. 1 and 2. If that wasn’t nutty enough, they are holding a writing contest for “The Nuttiest Thing that Ever Happened to Me.”  The contest is open to “every single person on the planet (Earth)” and […]

Man About Town: The one weird trick… To writing this column

By the time you read this Silverton City Planner Steve Kay will have put a fresh new coat of paint on his house. The Man guesses it must have been nice to make the improvements without having to go through the long process of gathering public comments and offer options about the color, whether to spray or brush and what the timeline will be. No word yet on if he will trim any trees or add four feet to his driveway………

Man About Town: That’s weird… One ear is longer than the other

On May 26 you will have an opportunity to celebrate the birthday of an Old Goat. Vern Holmquist (a.k.a. The Old Curmudgeon) is turning 90 so the Glockenspiel Restaurant is throwing a no-host party from 5-7 p.m. Vern and I certainly don’t agree on everything, but this is America and The Man fully supports his right to be wrong…

Man About Town: There goes Mooster Man

Man About Town: If those walls could talk… you’d be in big trouble mister

Local photographer and art maven Barry Shapiro is working on a program to beautify downtown Silverton.
