The Silverton Health-spital Auxiliary is holding its huge annual garage sale this weekend, Aug. 17- 18 at the corner of Hwy 213 and Monitor Road. The funds raised will be used to benefit the programs and projects of the auxiliary – and you get to pick up some “fabulous bargains”…Sounds like one of them thar win – win situations to The Man. If you find that people are always telling you where to go…well, then you’re in luck. After much planning, designing, wrangling, more planning, wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth, the long-awaited directional signage plan has been approved for Silverton. The way-finding signs will start going up in the next few months and in case you were wondering, won’t require any of the city’s general fund money to complete.
Speaking of signage and red tape, the murals have been approved and will soon go up on the front of the Oktoberfest building as originally designed. The colorful artwork is sure to make the Festhalle even festier…
If you haven’t checked out the new location of Howard Hinsdale Cellars Wine Bar, plan to do it soon – The Man says Howard and Kevin knocked this one out of the park…..
Mt Angel Brewing’s Larry Oien reports their root beer was awarded a silver medal at a national brewers contest – now the whole country knows about the frothy goodness made right here in Mount Angel….
ODOT wants you to know that it will soon be applying the dreaded chip seal to Hwy 214 from Silverton up to Silver Falls. The Man is not sure if this is one of those “shovel ready” projects we have heard so much about but it’s sure to keep those windshield repair businesses busy…

Kudos go out to the Silverton Rotary Club and the Homer Davenport Festival Board for a job well done on this year’s festival. (Next year they promise to arrange for it to be 20 degrees cooler…) Next up the Silverton Fine Arts Festival Aug. 18-19 and then the Big Kahuna, Mt Angel Oktoberfest, Sept. 13-16.
On the heels of Rick Lewis’ retirement and Jeff Fossholm taking over as Silverton Police Chief comes word that 23 year veteran Buck Pilmore has been promoted to take Fossholm’s place as captain. Good luck to the boys in blue….
