Delana Bettoli’s 40-year art career spanned the country, frolicked across art mediums – and punched up the red of the carpet ushering in The British Invasion. For her September show at Lunaria Gallery, Bettoli has put together a complete overview of her career as an artist called “Angst to Zen … the Strange Range of D. Bettoli.” The Artist’s Reception is Friday, Sept. 7, 7 to 9 p.m. at Lunaria Gallery, 113 N. Water St. The show runs through Oct. 1.
“The Starving Artist” – a familiar term (often applied by artists to themselves) depicting the dire straits of one who devotes his or her life to pursuing this passion – at the expense of nearly all else.
Artists are always asked about their “influences,” and with good reason: They always have them. Even more intriguing is the way a given artist construes her influences through her work. A predilection for the Gothic style of the Middle Ages fuels Mount Angel artist Deborah Unger. Living in Germany for 20 years, she had ample opportunity to immerse herself in the real thing.
Kathryn Cramer’s art was a picture of her life. Inspired, she thoughtfully carved out its design, adjusting or defining as her soul directed. She intentionally chiseled away those things opposed to love, peace and community.
Bonnie Taylor Talbot’s Paris-inspired paintings are on display through July 31 at Lunaria Gallery. The show, “She Sits in the City of Lights,” kicks off July 1 at Silverton’s First Friday event.
