Silverton is one remarkable town. Despite all the doom and gloom scenarios of teenagers developing carpal tunnel from text messaging, fighting addictions to Facebook and demonstrating a general malaise toward anything remotely resembling adults, I have never been more proud of my alma mater, its staff, and most importantly, its students.

Yount honored for role in rescue

Amy Marie Yount of Silverton received an award at the Oregon Fire Service Meritorious Awards recently. She works part time for Dallas Emergency Medical Service as a paramedic. Her department, along with Dallas Fire Department, Falls City Fire Department, Life Fight and Oregon National Guard received a Unit Citation for their rescue of a fallen logger.
