Teacher charged: Salem police file sex abuse counts; district conducts investigation

Craig Roessler, superintendent of Silver Falls School District, issued a statement following the June 23 arrest of Sue Alderson, a teacher at Robert Frost School. She is charged with one count each of Rape I and II, Sodomy I and II and Sex Abuse I and II.

The minor involved is not a Silver Falls School District student.

“Our district staff and school board take reports involving misconduct very seriously and will act as quickly as possible in the best interest of everyone involved,” he wrote. “We will cooperate with the police, while conducting our own investigation. This includes reporting the issue to the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission within the legally required 30 days.

“While this is a personnel matter that limits our ability to provide more specific details, we are taking appropriate action with Mrs. Alderson. Appropriate action includes following all district and state rules and laws regarding staff discipline, while protecting Mrs. Alderson’s privacy rights. “

Rossler asked anyone with concerns or questions to contact him or Andy Bellando, director of personnel.

“Creating a safe learning climate is our top priority and we will continue to work to ensure students feel safe in our schools. As we get more information, we will keep you informed,”he said.
