Silverton Country Historical Society recounts achievements of past year at annual session

Oak Street Church is the setting of the Silverton Country Historical Society’s annual meeting, which will take place Saturday, Jan. 17, 2 p.m.

Built in 1910, the building at 502 Oak St., Silverton, was constructed for the Woodmen of the World lodge, and was later used by the American Legion for many years.

The annual meeting will feature a review of an eventful year in SCHS, including an overview of filmed oral histories by older citizens sharing their memories of earlier years.

In 2008 the organization improved the museum’s exterior, added a circa-1940s plane observation post from the Waldo Hills and spruced up a gazebo shielding the remnants of the historic old oak.
The meeting is open to all members of the community interested in the history of the area.

Refreshments will be served.

For further information, call Kathy Hunter, 503-873-0159; the museum, 503-873-7070; or see www.silvertonmuseum.com.
