Non-profits share more than $100,000 from Oktoberfest

The Mount Angel, Oktoberfest Board of Directors will award $105,250 to 48 non-profit organizations May 17 as a result of 2009 Oktoberfest. The  largest grant of $50,000 will be used to help build a new Community Center for Mount Angel.

St. Joseph Shelter, Mount Angel Community Chest, Mount Angel Senior Center, Northwest Senior & Disability Services, Silverton Together, Silverton Area Community Aid, Silverton Women’s Zenith Club and other organizations that help the needy split $5,050. Area schools, scouting and other youth activities received $16,750.

Silverton Hospital, Providence Benedictine Nursing Center, Mount Angel Developmental Program shared $4,500. St. Mary Parish in Mount Angel, the Benedictine Sisters, Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, Mount Angel Abbey, Catholic Broadcasting and the Festival Chorale Oregon shared $9,100.

Mount Angel Volunteer Firefighters Association, Mount Angel Chamber of Commerce, Marion County Search and Rescue, American Legion Post #89, Marion County Search Dogs, Oregon Mounted Posse and other service groups divided $19,850.

In addition, $637,742 was earned by the non-profit community groups that operated 47 food booths at the four-day event.
