A gift: Saalfeld Park completed in time for O’Fest

Visitors to Mount Angel’s Oktoberfest this year will notice a familiar gathering spot has received a makeover. On Aug. 31, city officials, volunteers and contributors attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at Mount Angel’s new Saalfeld Park. The site was the home of the late Henrietta Saalfeld, whose family donated the property to the City of Mount Angel to be used as a relaxing place for residents and visitors.

Race time: Candidates compete for Mount Angel council

Both familiar and new faces are vying for election to the Mount Angel City Council. The ballot for the Nov. 6 election will have five candidates. City councilor Andrew Otte is running unopposed for mayor. Current Mayor Rick Schiedler has chosen not to seek reelection.

St Joseph’s Shelter of Mount Angel has undertaken a complete renovation of one dormitory to house migrant and farm worker families in 10 new apartment units.

Saalfeld park: Work begins on Mount Angel site

Henrietta Saalfeld, “Hank” as she was known in Mount Angel, might be pleased to see what is being done with the house she donated to the city. It is being dressed up for use as a city park. Saalfeld passed away July 30, 2010.
