Mt. Angel garners ‘Best of’ citations in six categories

Mt. Angel’s Oktoberfest took six honors in The Statesman Journal’s 2009 search for the Best of the Mid-Valley contest.

Sweeping all entertainment categories for which the festival was nominated, Oktoberfest was voted Best Annual Event, Best Family Attraction, Best Free Activity, Best Place to Dance, Best Live Music and Best Place to Take Out of Town Guests.

Jerry Lauzon, director of public relations for the annual September event, said that no other community outside Salem received so many accolades.

In addition, Frank-n-Steins Pub was voted Best Karaoke Venue.

Z Musikmakers was first runner-up as the Best Local Band in the Mid-Valley; St. Mary Parish Church followed the Reed Opera House as Best Historic Building and garnered third place as Best Wedding Venue; Mt. Angel Sausage Co.’s European-style sausage took second as the Best Place to Buy a Hot Dog and the Bavarian Haus Restaurant landed third in the Best Undiscovered Restaurant in the Mid-Valley.

Community members throughout the Willamette Valley cast 400,000 votes in the competition.
