New students offered new ‘Connections’

By Cambria Roth

Finding your way through the halls of Silverton High School filled with 1,200 people you don’t know can be intimidating for new students.

Now there is a place for new students to go so they do not feel so lost in the crowd.

All foreign exchange and transfer students are welcome to Connections every Wednesday in the Career Center.

“Connections is a way for students to connect with other students at the school and feel welcome in a new environment,” said Sue Fischer, club adviser.

The Connections’ team includes Lydia Dettwyler, Tyler Bellando, Briana Bledsoe, Theresa Bochsler, Emily Bowles, Cheri Schiedler, Annie Stroup, and Alexandra Thomas.

Transfer students include Michael Burns, Navi Cantoran, Brian Harthun and Nicole Hollow. Exchange students are Karl Braendstroem, Sweden; Oliver Maniura, Germany; Marine Madera, France; Katherin Valentina Millan Hernandez, Columbia; and Irene Schrijver, The Netherlands.

Every week, the exchange students share information about their countries by sharing photographs and their favorite food.

This gives others the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the students’ lives in their home countries.

It also creates a chance to feel more at home in their new school.
