Silverton resident Rod L Rolie, 63, passed away at his home July 6, 2014.
He is survived by his son Shawn Oates; his daughters Kim Cowley, Rhonda Topham, and Terra Rolie; his mother Amy Hensley; his brother Rick Rolie; his sisters Kelly Miller, Kim Riley, and Lesta Bentley and nine grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his father Loren Rolie and nephew Brian Damewood.
Rod graduated from Silverton Union High School in 1969. In his early 20s, he survived a car crash that left him with brain injuries. Despite many obstacles, Rod went on to master the skill of being a butcher for his family restaurant, purchase his own home and lived a fulfilling life. He refused to let anything hold him back. He was a strong member on his shuffleboard team, a skillful poker player and a longtime member of the Silverton Elks Lodge. He loved fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends. If asked how he was doing, Rod would answer “excellent” or “fantastic.” He approached life with a positive attitude and appreciation for the little things. Rod’s smile, laughter, whistle and love of peppers and spice will never be forgotten. He gave love and friendship unconditionally and we know Rod… “you got it made!”
