Free concerts in Mt. Angel

by Kathy Hunter Cook

The Wooden Nickel will present seven free concerts at the Willamette Valley Event Center in Mt. Angel this summer.

The concerts will take place during July and August, and will feature entertainers such as Portland’s Linda Hornbuckle, nationally known blues recording artist.

“We think it’s a good year to do something for people that they can afford,” said Glen Damewood of Wooden Nickel restaurants and catering. “Free is affordable.”

Two concerts will feature the Latino group, Emozzion, of the Willamette Valley area.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and all concerts begin at 7 p.m. The center is located at the former Mt. Angel Brewery site, 210 Monroe St.

Festival-style seating will be outside, and lawn chairs are welcome. Food, drink and restrooms will be available outside; parking is on nearby streets. Outside food or beverages may not be brought in.

Dates, groups and type of music are as follows:

Thursday, July 16 – Linda Hornbuckle, blues-soul

Wednesday July 22 – Emozzion, tijano

Thursday, July 23 – Kolvane, roots blues
