Something for the Soul: People are people… Love them anyway

Winnie BoltonBy Winnie Bolton

Having majored in psychology in college, I have never stopped peering into people’s motivations for their behaviors.

Still searching for answers, I am pleased to have found one that can apply to a normal person, someone without psychological problems.

Mother Theresa once said, “No belief system need apply.”

It is so simple that any human could understand its far reaching effects.

She stated, “People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

“If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

“If you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies; succeed anyway.

“If you are honest and frank, people will cheat you. Be honest and frank anyway.

“What you spend years building, people could destroy overnight. Build anyway.

“If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

“The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow. Do good anyway.

“Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give the world the best you’ve got anyway. You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God.

“It was never between you and them anyway.”

Never lose sight of what’s important to your values.

Sending warm wishes to all the Our Town readers for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Man About Town: Um… Don’t get around much anymore

By Jim Kinghorn A Seattle dog has figured out the public transit system and has taken to regularly riding the bus by himself to the local dog park. By Vern Holmquist I wish I knew the name of the young couple who came running to my rescue when they saw me take a nose dive off my two-wheel scooter on the steepest part of Main Street’s hill descending into downtown Silverton.
