Seniors open shop, start singles group

Silverton Senior Center has started a new enterprise, a thrift store at 207 Jersey St., Silverton, across from the Oak-fired Pizza cart. The opening will be held during First Friday, July 5.

Vona Wahlster and Ruth Cock, assisted by volunteers, will operate the shop. Veterans of the center’s annual rummage sales, the two women said the new shop will add to the shopping variety of downtown Silverton.

Thrift store hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sunday, when donations also will be accepted.

Earlier in June SSC introduced its Singles Dine-Out Club for middle-aged and up single men and women who want to meet and have fun with other singles.

“Several local restaurants have the space for groups, including Chan’s, Thai Dish and Mill Street Pub,” said center director Dodie Brockamp, “and we will also meet in Mount Angel in the future.”

People interested in joining the group for dinner on the second Thursday of each month are welcome; center membership is not necessary. The first get-together is Thursday, July 11, at Mill Street Pub, located at Mill and Jefferson streets in Silverton. Social time starts at 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. is “dutch treat” dinner off the menu.

For information, contact the center at 503-873-3093.
