Fishing for protein

Dixon Bledsoe is trolling for protein – especially in the shape of peanut butter jars and tuna cans.

Call Dixon Bledsoe,

donation pick up.

He plans on donating whatever he “catches” to Silverton Area Community Aid, the nonprofit food bank that is assisting record numbers of visitors.

Bledsoe, a real estate broker and long-time Silverton resident,  said hunger  is a year-round thing.

“Collecting food and gifts for those less fortunate than ourselves is a wonderful and feel-good moment during the holidays,” Bledsoe said, “but food insecurity and outright hunger take no holidays.”

In this economy, the need to support the local food bank is greater than ever.

From now through Dec. 31, Bledsoe is managing a campaign called “Two Tons of Tuna.” His goal is to garner donations of both tuna fish and peanut butter monthly so that the SACA shelves always have an ample supply of the protein-packed items.

Roth’s Family Market of Silverton, with the help of manager Darrin Rybloom, has offered discount pricing to support the cause. At Roth’s, a case of Western Family tuna (48 cans) is $35 and Western Family Peanut Butter (12 jars) is $20.  If you are visiting Roth’s on Saturdays, don’t be surprised to see Bledsoe and a few of his fishing buddies trolling for protein.
