The Forum: Support Silverton pool

By Sister Hilda Kleiman, Mount Angel

On May 7, the Silverton City Council will be considering the closure of the Silverton Pool for the winter beginning in September.  The community needs to support the year-round operation of the Silverton Pool.

The Silverton Pool is an important health resource not only for Silverton, but for other local communities as well, including Mount Angel. A winter closure will disrupt the healthy fitness routines that have been established by many children, adults, and senior citizens in our area.

The Silverton Poll is an investment in the health of our citizens, both now and in the future. Children who learn to love the water will continue to exercise as adults, and the low-impact, full-body exercise provided by lap swimming and water aerobics classes help adults with weight management, arthritis, and recovery from surgeries.

Please support the good health of our communities and attend the council meeting at the Silverton Council Chambers on May 7 at 7 p.m.  All swimmers and supporters are invited to gather at the Silverton Pool at 6:30 and then proceed to the meeting together.
