From Foxes to Wolves: Silverton students receive athletic scholarships

Nicole Hanson with her son Julian Canda and Torrey Rogness with his mom, Elizabeth Rogness. In the fall, Julian Canda and Torrey Rogness will be trading in their orange and black uniforms for red and white uniforms and going from being Foxes to Wolves.

Silverton High School seniors Canda and Rogness recently signed letters of intent to play football at Western Oregon University, where they both received partial scholarships.

Both varsity athletes in football, basketball and track, Canda and Rogness have been recognized for their athletic and academic success at Silverton High.

Canda and Rogness were named to The Oregonian’s All-State Football Team with Canda for second team defense and Rogness honorable mention team for offense.

They were also named to the Mid-Willamette Valley All-League team with Canda being honored as first team defensive back and kick returner; second team wide receiver and Rogness, first team wide receiver, second team punter and honorable mention defensive back.

Rogness was selected by the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association to play in the 2012 Les Schwab Bowl. Rogness was chosen out of all Oregon’s 5A and 6A football players to represent his school, community and football program in the classic North vs. South match-up.  The Les Schwab Bowl is 6 p.m. June 23 at Hillsboro Stadium.
