Silverton High School’s varsity girls soccer coach Fred George has coached senior Sierra Brusven since she was 9 and played for the Silver Falls Soccer Club Emeralds.
Maybe that’s why he’s delighted to see her progress from club to high school and now college soccer player.
Brusven signed a letter of intent on Nov. 16 to play soccer for Corban College in Salem.
“It’s hard to put into words how very proud of Sierra I am, both as a player and a young lady. Sierra has been a pleasure to coach and mentor,” George said.
Corban University women’s soccer team had a 16-4 record and lost the championship game 2-1, to the National Association of Collegiate Athletics’ No. 1-ranked team, Concordia University.
Corban’s women’s soccer coach Marty Ziesemer said he believes Brusven will be a valuable addition to the Corban Warriors.
“Sierra has many of the qualities that I look for in a player. Besides being talented at the game of soccer she fits in well with the current Corban team, I am impressed with her character. She will enhance our team in many ways,” Ziesemer said.
Brusven has been on the SHS varsity soccer team since her freshman year and is known for being the scorer record holder, having scored 39 goals during her high school career. She was named to the first team Mid-Willamette Valley All-League team.
“Sierra is an extraordinary player. She brings her A-game every time she laces up her cleats,” George said.
Brusven is one of three teammates who were part of the original Emeralds who will be graduating in June. The other two are Josie Brown and Sarah Burk. Brusven said she has mixed feelings about leaving her teammates.
“I am excited about playing at a higher level and traveling but I will also miss the unity of the team. They are like sisters to me,” Brusven said. This year, the Lady Foxes season was 8-3-2.
