Clement Joseph Unrein, Jr., died on Sept. 3, 2023, peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born on July 11, 1941, in Salem, Oregon, to Clement Sr. and Beatrice Nendel Unrein, he was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Serra Catholic High School in 1960. He married Charlene Fisher from Mount Angel, Oregon on Oct. 20, 1962. They raised three boys and a girl. They began their married life in Salem before moving and settling in Mount Angel in 1976.

Clem was a hard-working husband and father. He was first and always a mechanic, working and eventually managing Master Service Station at the base of the Center Street bridge. The purpose of the move to Mount Angel was to allow Clem to manage farm operations around the Mount Angel Abbey. After retiring from farm management, he went back to being a mechanic which he truly loved.

Clem enjoyed being a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the Mt. Angel Fire Department. Elk hunting, woodworking, car trips, cooking and playing cards with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene; sons, Mike (Callie), Darin (Tamela) and Joseph (Alison); his daughter, Kim (Brad); sister, Sharon (Douglas); and brother, Douglas. He also has 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen; and two of his grandchildren, Matthew and Alexander.

His funeral service was held Sept. 12, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mount Angel. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel – Mt. Angel.
