Silver Falls School District honors employees

Six Silver Falls School District employees will be recognized as Employees of the Year at the First Citizen banquet Feb. 20.

Honorees include: Katie Tolmachoff, Middle School Classified Employee. She is an educational assistant at Mark Twain Middle School.

Mike Craig, High School Classified Employee. He is a custodial/maintenance employee at Silverton High and Butte Creek schools.

Torry Wilson, Elementary School Classified Employee. He is a custodial/maintenance employee at Silver Crest Elementary School.

Mary Rankin, High School Teacher. She is the special education teacher in the Transitions Learning Program at Silverton High School.

Helen Plov, Middle School Teacher. She is the seventh and eighth grade teacher at Scotts Mills Elementary School and the head teacher.

Christy Sander, Elementary School Teacher. She is an elementary classroom teacher and the district’s literary coach.

Food aid: SACA begins neighborhood project

The Silverton Area Community Aid Food Project is a new way to collect food for the local food bank. Neighborhood coordinators enlist their neighbors to become donors to the SACA Food Pantry. Olaf Paulson, Jr.: July 14, 1920 – Sept. 14, 2014

Olaf Paulson, Jr., who passed away peacefully Sept. 14,  was born in Moscow, Idaho on July 14, 1920 to Olaf Paulson, Sr. of Redwing, Minn., and Karen Lassen of Kragerø, Norway.  He came to the Silverton area while very young, moving west from Idaho’s Palouse with his parents and siblings after their wheat crop was destroyed by a storm.
