Calendar kids: Student art turns into YMCA fundraiser

By Lynne BerkeyBilly Mina celebrates at a bowling party.

It all started with a contest – students were asked to write an essay about their favorite YMCA and/or other equally healthy, active program experience; describe what they liked about it and what they learned from it.

They also were asked to submit specific examples – fun photos and/or creative artwork that complimented their story.

As the contest concluded, the submissions were transformed into a 2010 Silver Falls Family YMCA Calendar. This calendar, inspired by the creative energy, talents and abilities of the children in our community, promotes the importance of being active and making healthy lifestyle choices.

The calendar will be sold for $5, the proceeds of which will help cover the costs associated with the project as well as support  future youth programs and activities.
