Wright’s vision – Plan integrates Gordon House indoor/outdoor experience

By James Day When famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright was working on his Usonian house design, one of the goals was to integrate as much as possible the outdoor spaces and the home’s interior. The Gordon House, the lone Wright-designed home in Oregon, has received nearly $30,000 in grant funds to help upgrade the landscape in an effort to fulfill […]

New duties – Faith Rockenstein takes reins at Gordon House

By James Day For Faith Rockenstein, it was love at first sight. The accomplished artist, arts educator and long-time museum manager, who has traveled widely in the U.S and abroad, was blown away a couple of years ago when she entered Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge. “I was just overwhelmed,” she said. Rockenstein decided to stay in Oregon and eventually found […]

By Brenna Wiegand Last month the Oregon Cultural Trust awarded the Gordon House Conservancy a grant of $13,325 toward ongoing preservation of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed home. The money goes a long way toward funding the stabilization of a sagging 20-foot beam spanning its living room, thereby preserving the home’s structural integrity and protecting the Conservancy’s mission of educating […]

Fitting for a “foodie”: Event benefits Frank Lloyd Wright’s Gordon House

Architect Frank Lloyd Wright was a “foodie” say organizers of a fundraiser benefiting the Gordon House – the only Wright-designed building open to the public in the Pacific Northwest. The event’s planners point to Wright’s innovations for a small but functional kitchen he designed to be efficient, convenient and inspirational for food preparation.

Wright designed the home for Conrad and Evelyn Gordon, who built the house on their Clackamas County farm in 1964. To raise funds to maintain the Gordon House, now located next to The Oregon Garden in Silverton, there will be an evening of food and wine, a silent auction and a drawing with a “wine wall.”
