People Out Loud: Naughty or Nice, Holiday

Dixon BledsoeBy Dixon Bledsoe

Editor’s Note: This column is meant to be sung to the tune of “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow.”

While the Portland traffic is frightful, shopping locally is so delightful.

From chocolate to antiques to handcrafted beers, buy it here, buy it here, buy it here…

When Salem roads are icy, the deals here in town are spicy.

Spend your dollars here and make our merchants cheer.

Buy it here, buy it here, buy it here….

When we finally get a seat, at our favorite place to eat.

There you are with your phone in hand, talking louder than the band.

In the crosswalk folks are walking, but you’re on the phone in the car talking.

In the country or here in town, put your stupid cell phone down.

In the plane or when we’re praying, we don’t care what you’re saying.

Make us smile, don’t make us frown. Put it down, put it down, put it down.

When driving south on North Water, pedestrians aren’t for slaughter. The red stop signs mean don’t go and running stop signs really blows.

When we finally have some luck, and we make a few extra bucks.

Get a ham with a BOGO bird, it’s the deal at Roth’s I just heard.

When your wallet is full of money, for those having their heat turned off ain’t funny.

Help SACA help those in need. Plant a seed, please take heed, yes indeed.

For the Zenith Tree of Giving, helping others is what I call living.

When the firefighters come to call, send ‘em home with quite a haul.

For the season please don’t be naughty. To retail clerks don’t be haughty.

Have a heart made of warmth, not ice;
play it nice, play it nice, play it nice.

For all of our town’s volunteers, let’s sound out a ring of cheers. For their warm kindness and good will can melt the bitterest chill.

And when Christmas is finally past, and New Year’s was a heckuva blast.

Pay it forward with genuine cheer. Make the holidays last all year.

Well my song is finally finished. Let the message be not diminished.

Being nice or naughty’s a choice. For the nice ones, let’s rejoice!

Have a joyous holiday season filled with warm fires, great friends and family.
