By Don Murtha

The Marion County Citizens Band hosts the Mid-Willamette Valley Community Band Festival, featuring five area community bands on Saturday, April 20 at Silverton High School’s auditorium, 1456 Pine St.

“We encourage the public to come and enjoy the performances of each band,” said  Dale Sroufe, band director. “There will be a grand finale of the massed band concluding the concert at 3:30 p.m.”

The performance will be 10 a.m. when the Marion County band takes the stage, followed by the Portland Metro Band, Clackamas Community Band, Keizer Community Band and Beaverton Community Band. Each plays 50 minutes.

“Performances will include marches, show tunes, classics and popular music sure to please most music lovers,” Sroufe said.

Lunch will be available consisting of a sandwich bar, salads and dessert at the high school commons area. Everyone is invited.

“Come early and stay all day,” Sroufe said. “It is a great way to spend a Saturday relaxing with musical entertainment-and it’s free.”
