Hunt officially fired

Severance contract negotiations between the city of Mt. Angel and former city administrator Jim Hunt ended Feb. 18 when Hunt received a letter from Mayor Rick Schiedler terminating his contract.

Hunt said the letter informed him he had been dismissed as city administrator without cause. He received three months severance pay. Schiedler said he cannot comment on the matter at this time.

Hunt, who was unanimously selected for the post in November 2007, said he feels the dismissal letter is a violation of his contract. In October the city council voted 4-3 to renew Hunt’s contract for three-years. Hunt’s attorney, Don Kelley, has requested mediation. “I was hoping we could mutually work out our differences,” Kelley said. “Failing mediation,” he said, “we will have to look at binding arbitration.”
