Letter to the Editor: Here’s to happier times

This message will be short/sweet (maybe not to all) / and to the point.

Everyone chooses where they live. My husband and I chose to live in Silverton initially due to our businesses. Then we became Silvertonians, and proud of this small, quaint town even with its quirkiness.

Everyone’s political beliefs are theirs, and respect we must. My husband and I may not vote in Silverton elections as we live outside the city limits (but are property /business owners within) so this message is not political support in any way.

The divisiveness must stop.

Going down the street viewing the negative placards in windows does not paint a “pretty” picture of livability here for those of us here now or possible newcomers to our town.

This on going rift should not affect businesses due to which customers are served (especially when that business does not take sides).

A business is in business to employ people/serve customers and to, hopefully, earn an income. I personally feel I want to recoil every time someone asks me about this mess. I simply want to say “there are so many really overwhelming matters on all of our plates at this time, can we not come to resolution, agree to disagree, move on and get along! I am hoping for the Happy Times in Silverton again.

Silverton Health status unchanged

In December, Silverton Health Board of Directors Chair Gayle Goschie said she was hopeful she could announce “by February who Silverton Health has chosen as its partner.” Last year, the board decided it was no longer fiscally responsible for Silverton Health to operate independently.  Both Goschie and Silverton Health President/CEO Rick Cagen said a partner had not been chosen as […]
