Streetscape: More input sought

Design presentation
May 26, 7 p.m.
Silverton High School auditorium,
1456 Pine St.

Silverton’s Urban Renewal Agency / City Council is considering implementation of streetscape improvements recommended in the 2007 Downtown Master Plan. The goal is to enhance downtown for business, recreation and civic life.

Concept 2 adds street lamps and trees. Citizen input received at community meetings, by email and letters, petitions, independent surveys, and through verbal testimony revealed that there are divergent views regarding how the initial downtown streetscape enhancement project should be designed.

To reconcile the desires expressed by residents with the concerns of downtown business and property owners, city staff has prepared several compromise designs for an initial Streetscape Enhancement Project on East Main Street.

Two alternative concepts were presented to East Main Street business and property owners on April 26 for feedback and to generate additional ideas.

Concept 7 would create a plaza. City staff is planning a community meeting to present the alternative design concepts to citizens and share findings from the meeting with East Main Street business and property owners on May 26, 7 p.m.,  at Silverton High School auditorium, 1456 Pine St.

Following the meeting there will be an opportunity to weigh in on all of the streetscape concepts that have been presented.

Citizens who are unable to attend the May 26 meeting may view the presentation via the city’s website, www.silverton.or.us and are encouraged to provide written feedback to the Silverton Community Development Department.

To assist with its decision on how to proceed, the Urban Renewal Agency will be reviewing all of the input that has been received on June 20, 7 p.m. in the city council chambers.
