Blanket benefit: Limited-edition Sesquicentennial memento featured in historical society fundraiser

Silverton Country Historical Society is conducting a drawing for a limited-edition Oregon Sesquicentennial Pendleton blanket.

The drawing will take place at the SCHS annual meeting on Saturday, Jan. 23, just before the end of Oregon’s sesquicentennial year on Feb. 14.  The blanket be on display at the Silverton Green Store in the Wolf Building at 201 E. Main St. until mid-November, and then will be at various places around town.

Tickets are $3 each or $5 for two and will be available at the Silverton Chamber of Commerce, the museum and wherever the blanket is displayed.  Proceeds from the drawing will go toward building a structure for the old Porter School bell at the museum grounds.

The images on the blanket, designed by Portland resident Patty Fogarty, represent the state.  The blanket comes with Governor Ted Kulongoski’s signature tag and the Pendleton Woolen Mills authentication tags. Oregon 150 has estimated the value of this work of art as approximately $1,000.

All the materials used take into consideration Oregon’s environmental concerns and are as natural and eco-friendly as possible.

This commemorative blanket is one of only 150 woven by Pendleton Woolen Mills in honor of Oregon’s 150-year anniversary.
