One dead in single-vehicle crash at Silver Falls State Park

A man has died following a single-vehicle collision Saturday on Hwy. 214 in Silver Falls State Park after a pickup ran off the road.

A press release Tuesday from Oregon State Police (OSP) said David Dale Legan, 35, was traveling westbound in a Chevrolet U-Haul pickup truck near milepost 25, close to the South Falls Day Use Area.

The release said Legan “left the roadway on a downhill corner for an unknown reason” and struck a large tree head-on. Legan was declared deceased at the scene and authorities noted he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

OSP said Legan’s city of residence was unknown at the time of the release. Civil court records and information available through social media said Legan lived in Salem during recent years.

Troopers were assisted by the Drakes Crossing Fire District, Woodburn Ambulance and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
