The owners of Where to Start Health and Fitness Studio invites residents to “fool” their “fat.”

Daniel and Tirzah Hawkins are hosting their first 5K Fool Your Fat Walk/Run followed by a opening celebration on April 1.

“We want to provide fun ways to get the Stayton community physically active,” Tirzah said. “We hope to inspire people in the community to fall in love with being physically fit and participate in activities such as walking or running.”

The event, inspired by April Fool’s Day, begins at 11 a.m. with check-in an hour earlier. Healthy refreshments catered by Trexler Farms will be provided after the race.

Ribbon cutting for the opening of Where to Start will take place at noon.

“Our goal is to get 100 walkers or runners, but we would love to see more than that participate,”  Tirzah said. “Our continuing goal is to help people see that a fit/healthy lifestyle is achievable. We would like to encourage anyone who needs help with this to give us a call.”

The race fee is $15, and Where to Start will provide prizes for three places in the race. The first 100 entrants will receive a goodie bag.

All attendants will receive a drawing ticket for each can of food brought to be donated to the Marion-Polk Food Share. Prizes will be provided by local businesses. Music will highlight the event, which runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and chair massages will be available for a fee.

“Business is steadily increasing thanks to the support of the local community,” Tirzah said. “People that find success here are quick to share with their friends about us. Our clients appreciate that we have our own personal weight loss journeys, which allows us to connect better with others looking to lose weight themselves.”

Through trial and error, the Hawkins lost a combined 130 pounds by running and eating right after fighting the effects of being overweight for the first five years of their marriage.

Today they are both certified personal trainers through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

“Through our journey, a deep desire to help other succeed started to develop,” Daniel shared on their website.

Today, the Hawkins provide professional fitness coaching and serve as accountability partners to individuals who are motivated to lose weight and become fit.
