No wonder they’re cracking and crumbling! In recent months, especially since city officials unveiled the first set of ideas for downtown renovation, folks from all walks of life have roamed Silverton streets.
Imagine a thriving downtown with charming lamp posts, gorgeous flowers and planters, clear signage, enticing storefronts and pedestrian and vehicle traffic friendly. Now imagine that happening soon with some new businesses sprinkled in.
In 2009, Silverton’s Historic Landmarks Commission and city staff sought to establish a historic district in the Coolidge and West Main Streets area of town. But after public dissatisfaction with the plan, the group went back to the drawing board to take a different approach.
Silverton Community Development Director Steve Kay has been on the job at city hall for one month, but he’s not new to the community. Kay has served on the Silverton Planning Commission for two years, lives in Silverton and participates in community events with his wife, Nicole.
