Sheesley is spearheading “Company is Coming” Spring Clean-Up Day, to scour downtown Silverton from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7.

A visitor to the Adaptive Riding Institute, where Rosen is the executive director, is likely to encounter a rider wearing a beaming smile, escorted by spotters and an instructor leading the horse through a series of stops and turns.

Home birth: Sometimes nature forces plans to change

After enduring vacuum extraction, cesarean section, and having a baby resuscitated immediately after birth, Jeannie and Mike Gearhardt decided on an alternative approach for their fifth child: home birth. So the Gearhardts went midwife shopping. The search started — and ended — with Betty Griffith, a licensed direct-entry midwife who came highly recommended.

Home delivery: Some women choose to give birth at home

When Eyonna Shubin of Silverton went into labor with her fourth child, she wasn’t sure if it was false labor or the real thing. After hours of steady contractions, she called her midwife to say, “I think this is it.” Instead of driving to a hospital, Shubin stayed home.

Something special: Scotts Mills Grange builds covered bridge

Scotts Mills City Park recently got a facelift, thanks to Scotts Mills Grange and harmonious efforts of the community and city. The new and improved park is now available for weddings and events, with a new covered bridge, freshly planted flowers, new grass and even a waterwheel.
