Deede picks Gonzaga

By Cambria Roth

Silverton High School senior Hannah Deede began to be recruited for volleyball by Gonzaga University during her junior year.

“They would come watch me play at tournaments during volleyball club season and the coaches and I would email back and forth,” Deede said. “I actually went to see the campus and meet the coaches face-to-face in June.”

After the visit, Deede attended a Gonzaga volleyball camp to improve her skills and explore the campus.

“The camp was very difficult and challenging but in the end, I learned a lot,” Deede said. “It was a hitting camp so we focused on attacking and blocking.”  Deede says she will sign a letter of intent with Gonzaga in November.

“I’m pretty excited. I’m kind of overwhelmed because this is actually happening and all of my hard work has paid off,” Deede said. “There is a tiny bit of apprehension but this is what I have been working towards.”

Deede is looking forward to her last season as a captain with the Silverton Lady Foxes varsity volleyball team.

“I feel like I’m loud on the court which helps and is why I’m captain because we have to communicate,” Deede said. “We definitely want to get first in league, make it to the state playoffs and we want to win.”
