Mount Angel postmaster sworn in

Mount Angel’s new Postmaster, Mellody Wilkins, was officially sworn into office on Sept. 25 in the village  gazebo.

Jami Goodpaster, Manager of Post Office Operations, performed the ceremony. Wilkins was appointed to the position on May 26. She is the 12th postmaster to serve the City of Mount Angel.

Wilkins oversees both the post offices of Mount Angel and Saint Benedict.

At the Mount Angel office, she is responsible for overseeing the processing, and delivering of mail to all the residents and businesses. The Mount Angel and Saint Benedict offices include more than 700 post office boxes and 1,200 deliveries on rural routes. There are three employees who work in two retail stations, as well as two rural carriers.

Wilkins began her career with the Postal Service at the Medford mail processing plant in 2015 as a postal support employee (PSE). She became a full-time career clerk in 2016. In 2017, she was assigned as the secretary to the Managers of Post Office operations. She is also involved with the district’s Postal Marketing team. 

Wilkins says she is committed to involving the Mount Angel Post Office into more community events.

For 2018 Oktoberfest, the post office partnered with the City of Mount Angel to create the special pictorial postmark to honor the event.
