Silverton Youth Football completes 2008 season

For the 2008 season, Silverton Youth Football had five flag teams – two fifth/sixth-grade teams, one seventh-grade team and one eighth-grade team, with more than 165 Silverton-area players participating.

The Silverton Youth Football program had a successful year with the focus on its mission of maximizing playing time for athletes and teaching the fundamentals of football as well as sportsmanship and respect for players, coaches, officials and opposing teams.

Officials said they appreciated the support of the parents, the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Salem, the cooperative relationship with the Silver Falls School District, and community members and businesses. Mt. Angel youth programs also supported the flag program by hosting all the flag games.

Nearly 40 volunteer coaches were involved in supporting the youth teams. The program is working to align itself with the high school football program in order to help develop future Foxes for Silverton High School Coach Scott Gragg’s program.

Sign-ups for the 2009 season are tentatively scheduled for May 2009.
