Harvest, Halloween happenings: Fun for the whole family

Scarecrows are sprouting  and fun fall activities are happening at The Oregon Garden throughout the month of October.

Family Harvest Days are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 and 27. Bring the family to enjoy fun, educational harvest activities like gourd bowling, pumpkin painting, learning why leaves change colors, learning about tractors, and more. The event, free with Garden admission, is sponsored by Wave Broadband and Linn Benton Tractor Co. For information, visit oregongarden.org or call 503-874-8100.

The Thespians’ SHS Haunted House is Friday, Oct. 26 after the football game until 11 p.m. Also 5 – 8 p.m. Oct. 27 and 30; 5 – 10 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Silverton High School Theater, 1456 Pine St. More than 15 rooms filled with shrieks, ghouls, monsters, and other scary characters. $5 per person at door. Advised for older children, teens, adults.

Learn how different cultures celebrate festive fall traditions while playing games and exploring art at the Day of the Dead & Halloween Family Fun Fair, sponsored by the Silverton Arts Association and Silverton Area Community Aid.

The fair is 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Silverton Community Center, 421 S. Water St.  Admission is $5 child with adult or four non-perishable food items, and families can attend together for only $20 (proceeds benefit SACA and SAA). Community members can help by volunteering their time to assist kids with art projects or games, donating small toys and favors for prizes, or by donating baked goods or other prizes for the Cake Walk.

The GeerCrest Fear Fest is also Oct. 27.  Discover what’s haunting the 168-year-old historic farm at 12390 Sunnyview Road, NE, with activities from 5 p.m. to midnight. There is a costume contest with winners for best overall, scariest, best couple, most unusual, and more. There will be games, spooky surprises and lots of fun.
