Two shows: Paris, America inspire new exhibits

By Brenna WiegandRed #5

Bonnie Taylor Talbot’s Paris-inspired paintings are on display through July 31 at Lunaria Gallery. The show, “She Sits in the City of Lights,” kicks off July 1 at Silverton’s First Friday event.

A self-taught mixed media artist who began at 42, Taylor Talbot’s work features iconic images of French balcony grates, chandeliers and perfume bottles. She outlines these with ribbons of bold color, incorporating stamped words and floral patterns.

“My work is about layers of acrylic on canvas to achieve ribbons of color between the objects and then I hand-stamp words and phrases to complete the piece,” she said. “I mix everyday objects with Parisian wrought iron grates, tiaras and crowns, chickens, ball gowns, the occasional perfume bottle and even chandeliers – all the things that delight me. I often think Matisse is watching over my shoulder.”

Her work is showing in Santa Fe, New Mexico, upstate New York, California, Washington and Oregon with prints available in locations throughout the U.S.

The artist offers Art Studio Play Dates; a full day that includes materials and lunch for $125. www.ipaintpictures.com; 503-557-2094
