Intimate setting: Christopher Wicks on piano opens Silverton Concert series

Silverton resident Christopher Wicks will perform a solo piano recital of works by J. S. Bach, Wicks, Debussy, Mozart and Grieg 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15 at the home of Anne Shams and Jeff Klein, 405 N. Water St., Silverton.

Wick’s concert is the inaugural performance of the Silverton Concert Series.

Host Jeff Klein said he would like the inaugural concert to launch monthly performances by solo artists and small ensembles in the intimate home setting.

“We can set up for an audience of about 30 people, which allows a close experience with the artist and music,” Klein explains.

Wicks is the organist for two Salem churches and is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists.

He earned a M.Mus. in Composition from the University of Montreal and a M.Mus. in Organ from the University of Oregon.

Wicks completed undergraduate work at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y., and Marylhurst College, West Linn, Ore.

His compositions have been performed in 15 states, Canada, Korea, and four European countries.
Wicks performs frequently on the West Coast and performed an all-Bach recital at the Anglican Cathedral in Montreal.

“We feel very privileged to launch our series with Christopher,” Klein said. “He is a passionate and very accomplished musician. His program is wide ranging, from the Baroque master Bach to contemporaries Grieg and Debussy and especially to a piece by Christopher. I am sure everyone will enjoy the program.”

There is a suggested donation of $10 for adults, $5 for students. A reception will follow the recital. For information, visit the website www.silvertonconcerts.info or e-mail [email protected].
