The Kennedy High School boys cross country team took sixth place in the 3A/2A/1A OSAA State Cross Country meet. Leonel Jines, a senior, finished in 10th place.
The team took first place at the district meet on Oct. 28. The district championship kept the Trojan streak alive – the Kennedy boys have qualified for the State Cross Country Meet for 13 consecutive years, one of the longest streaks in the state.
Jines led the way by taking first in the race with a time of 16:53, just five seconds off the school record. Jines was voted 1A/2A/3A Special District 2 Runner of the Year. Senior Darren Hall, 8th, freshman Dalton Susee, 9th, and senior Juan Ahuatl, 10th, also claimed All-District honors by finishing in the top 10. Angel Cardenas, Nico Van Oosthuijze and Oscar Cardenas also competed at state. Head Coach Steve Ritchie was selected District 2 Boys Coach of the Year.
At the state meet, junior Bridget Donohue took 13th place in the girls’ competition. The team finished in 12th place.
The Trojan girls won a close battle for second place at the district meet to qualify as a team for the state meet, qualifying for nine consecutive years. Donohue took second-place at the district meet with Lucero Cruz, 7th, and Sarah Frey, 9th with all three girls being named All-District runners. Madison Sprauer, Lizbeth Salazar, Morgan Geddes and Ernestina Ramirez rounded out the squad that competed at state taking 12th place.
