Silverton Free Fish Day will be held this Saturday, June 3, at Silverton Reservoir and local kids and families are invited to attend.
Organized by local nonprofit groups, the event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will take advantage of Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s annual license-free fishing the first weekend of June. This will be the 27th annual Free Fish Day held in Silverton.
During the event, the reservoir will be closed to all other activities. Participants can bring their own rods and bait, or use fishing equipment provided by the organizers, who include Silverton Together, Silverton Lions, Silverton Kiwanis, and City of Silverton. Kiwanis will also provide hot dogs and beverages.
All fish can be kept, and kids who bring their first fish to organizers and will receive a certificate including the fish’s weight.
In a press release, the Silverton Together said the goal of the event is to give “children and their families an opportunity to come together to ‘do a little fishing’ and hopefully, strengthen the bonds between parent and child, family and community. No matter what the weather, we always catch a lot of fish.”
