Athletes wrap up seasons

Silverton Track
The Silverton High Schools boys and girls track and field teams both won the Mid-Willamette Conference district and dual championships. Qualifying for the state meet in Eugene in May were Jordan Sinn in the 400 and 4×400 meter relay; Stephanie Wells in the javelin and shot put; Gabby Fleshman in the 100, 200, and 4×100 meter relay; Morgan Anderson in the 3,000 and 1,500; Wesley Torresdal in the 300 hurdles and 4×400 meter relay; Julian Canda in the 110 high hurdles and 300 hurdles; Samantha Whitaker in the high jump and 4×400 meter relay; Jane Kitts, Erinn Sinn and Annie Kuenzi in the 4×100 meter relay; Sadie Bye and Erika Sinn in the 4×400 meter relay and Josue Amezquita and Torrey Rogness in the 4×400 meter relay.

JFK Track – Girls
The Kennedy High School girls finished third in district and ninth in state.  At the district meet first place finishers were Chelsea Whirledge in the discus and the shot put; Anna Therkelsen in the 300 hurdles; Kaylee Aman in the pole vault and Bridget Donohue in the 800 meters. At the state meet, Whirledge took first in the discus and fourth in the shot put; Donohue took fourth in the 800 meters; Therkelsen took sixth in the 100 hurdles and eighth in the 300 hurdles; and Jones tied for eighth in the pole vault.

JFK Track – BoysKennedy thrower Jeff Ellingson won the state title in the discus.
The JFK boys won the boys championship at districts, defeating Scio 164-132. This is their second championship in three years. The Trojans took third place at the state meet with state titles won by Derek Barth in the long and high jump plus he took fifth in the triple jump and Jeff Ellingson winning the state title in the discuss and fourth place in the shot put. Alex Morrissey took second place in state in the 110 high hurdles and fourth in the pole vault and Derek Traeger took fifth place in state in both the high jump and the javelin.

Silverton Softball
The Lady Foxes battled back this season with a 15-6 record in the Mid-Willamette Conference and 18-7 record overall. After defeating league champions West Albany in one game, they ended conference play in second place. The team wn its first game against North Eugene on May 25 in OSAA 5A state playoffs.

JFK Softball
The Kennedy High School softball team finished second in the 5A Tri-River Conference. With a 15-3 record in conference play and 20-6 overall record, the Trojans earned a top seed in the OSAA 2A state playoffs. A win against Culver 10-6 in six innings, solidified Kennedy’s playoff berth. They faced the Knappa Loggers at home on May 26.

Golf – Silverton Girls
The main goal for the team was to improve, play well, but also have fun while playing. The Silverton girls golf team finished fourth in the Mid-Willamette Conference this year. Sarah Davisson advanced to the OSAA Class 5A golf state championships and tied for 34th with a shot of 194.

Golf – Silverton Boys
The top area finisher at the OSAA 5A district tournament was Kyle Kraemer who took 17th place after posting a 172.  The entire team placed sixth in district with a score of 768.

Tennis – Girls
The SHS girls’ tennis team finished the season in seventh place in the Mid-Willamette Conference with a 2-6 overall record.

Tennis – Boys
The Silverton boys’ tennis team made it a point to improve this season, and that they did. They won their first league match in seven years and finished fifth in the Mid-Willamette Conference. They finished the season with a 5-9 record in conference play and 5-11 record overall.
